Russian Adoption News

You might have heard through Russian adoption news that adopting a child from Russia is difficult. Difficult, maybe, but not impossible. As a matter of fact, adopting any child from any nation is going to take time, money and effort and Russia is no exception. There are plenty of Russian children who need a good home. Even celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Pamela Anderson have visited Russian orphanages and expressed their potential interest in adopting from this country.

The first step is to complete a course of homestudy and a dossier. Your dossier must be approved by the Ministry of Education in Russia before you will be able to get a referral. You will have to appear in person, which means traveling to Russia, to receive your referral from the Ministry of Education. The only exception to this rule is if you are working with an accredited agency. You will, of course, have to travel to Russia to receive your adopted child from the court. So at the least, it will mean one trip if not two.

It will usually take several months between getting a referral and getting a court date. The average duration of an international adoption in Russia is approximately nine months to one year. Therefore, it is necessary to have a great deal of patience when choosing to adopt from this country. You should definitely remain friendly and polite with the people you are working with. They are in control of the adoption and you will need to adhere to their rules and regulations, even if it means waiting a long time to get your child.

When it comes to Russian adoption news, the best thing to do is work with both a good agency and a good international adoption attorney who can keep you up to date on all the rules and regulations involved. You may also want to join an online forum or message board devoted to parents who have adopted from Russia or plan to do so. Often you can learn the most from other parents who've been through the process. Some adoptive parents return to Russia to adopt more children and are practically old pros at the procedure. They can be a valuable source of advice and encouragement for anyone beginning the adoption process.
